How to do Money Plant Care?

Money plant care is not a difficult task as it is such a versatile plant that it grows very well in water as well as in soil. While the bottled water money plants are usually preferred inside the house the soiled ones are usually kept outdoors.

The tips and tricks that you’ll be reading apply to all varieties of money plant and will help you with your money plant care routine.

Care Guide – For Indoor Money Plant:

Some of the important money plant care tips for the indoor plant are:

  • Grow in glassware or ceramic vase.
  • To decorate, pebbles can be added in the vase.
  • During summers, money plant care would just require you to spray water twice a day. If the plant is kept in the AC room spray the plant whenever the soil looks dry.
  • During winters, you can spray water on alternate days.
  • When it comes to indoor money plant care, you do not need any fertilizer.
  • The most important thing in money plant care is to keep pruning un-fresh or yellow leaves.

Care Guide – For Outdoor Money Plant:

A well-cared money plant can grow up to 12 feet in height. If average care is given, then, it can reach up to 7 feet in height approximately.

  • SOIL

The foremost requirement in money plant care is to grow it in porous and well-drained soil. So, one can mix river sand in the proportion of 1/3 garden soil, 1/3 compost (you can either use vermicompost or cow dung), and 1/3 coarse sand (river sand). Sand allows brilliant aeration and drainage to plants, therefore, the plant will prosper well.

  • WATER

Money plant can easily thrive when you water it adequately or underwater it. Under-watering can still be okay but over-watering can deteriorate its growth or can even decompose the plant. So, in your money plant care routine, you just need to water your money plant once in 7 – 10 days which is perfect for the summer season or when the soil looks dry because the soil also needs to dry up between two watering sessions.

But again, the gap should not extend too long, otherwise, the soil will develop cracks. Therefore, you can touch the topsoil and feel the dryness and decide when to water. During winter months, you can only mist by spraying water on the leaves and thorough watering can be done once every 2 – 3 weeks.

  • SUNLIGHT

Money plant generally grows well in shaded sunlight or direct sunlight in the morning, in indoor places, or low light conditions. A partially sunny and partially shady area is preferred for the brilliant growth of money plants. Money plants can sustain a high amount of sunlight but most importantly in money plant care, you must remember that scorching rays will burn the leaves. So, a shady yet well-lit position in a lawn, terrace, garden, or indoor space would be great for your money plant.

  • FERTILIZER

One of the reasons why money plant care is easy that they aren’t heavy feeders, plants with organic manure can be fertilized once in 6 months. For normal soil, you need to fertilize it once in a month, with any balanced houseplant organic manure.

  • RE-POTTING

If the money plant has heavy growth, and it seems to outgrow the pot, it is time to re-pot. After a year you can re-pot in a new pot 1 – 2 times larger in size, with fresh soil and manure. This helps to trim the plant back.

  • PRUNING

In money plant care pruning is not required unless you see your plant wilts, but it can be done to shape or control the growth of your plant. You can cut back a leaf that is about 2 inches from the base of the plant, to keep new growth coming in. Also, remove yellow leaves that are ageing.

Let the Money plant invite prosperity, wealth, and growth into your home!

Happy Living!
